About the University of Indianapolis
The University of Indianapolis is a comprehensive, selective, independent institution of 4,600 students located minutes from the heart of Indiana’s capital city. UIndy is distinguished by highly respected undergraduate programs in education, communication and the health sciences, nationally ranked graduate programs, and centers focused on education reform and aging studies.
Teacher Preparation at UIndy
UIndy’s Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellows will focus on math, chemistry, or life sciences, working in conjunction with the university’s innovative Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning and building on UIndy’s current Indianapolis partnerships. Fellows will engage in a project-based curriculum focused on four themes—equity and diversity; adolescent identity, culture and education; educational theories and urban classroom practice; and science and math pedagogy. All projects will be based in clinical practice and offered through non-traditional modular courses. More information
Schools/Districts Working With University of Indianapolis
UIndy is partnering with three Marion County districts: centrally located Indianapolis Public Schools (enrollment 35,300) the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township to the west (14,745 students), and the Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township to the southwest (6,100 students).
These diverse urban districts all have a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunches. The districts have redesigned high schools to provide students with exceptional opportunities to engage in learning in an environment where they connect with caring adults. UIndy’s Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning has been supporting IPS and Decatur Township in developing project-based New Tech schools.
