Q: Who should attend?

A: This event is primarily geared toward educators, parents, researchers, students, and community members who are interested in learning more about the potential of learning through engagement with digital media.

Q: Are children welcome?

A: Children are welcome, however, the topics and questions for the panel discussion are targeted for the audiences named above; therefore, this might not be very interesting to children under 10 years old. Any child, especially tweens and teens who are familiar with digital media and can sit through a presentation, is welcome accompanied by a responsible adult and pre-registered.

Q: Is there a fee to attend?

A: No. This event is free and open to the public.

Q: How do I register for this event?

A: Please visit the registration page. Early registration is encouraged if possible.

Q: How do I know if I am registered?

A: For individuals registered to attend the event live at The Academy of Natural Sciences, you will receive an email confirming your registration within 72 hours after completing the online registration form. For those following the event online, an email confirmation of your registration will occur within 24 hours with instructions on how to access the event via your preferred tool to follow prior to November 18.

Q: How do I cancel my registration?

Q: What are the benefits of attending in person?

A: Attending the event in person will give you an opportunity to see examples of work done by youth using digital media both in and out of school. Additionally, you will have the chance to meet others who are interested in the use of digital media.

Q: How do I get to the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia?

A: Please visit the Academy of Natural Sciences' Web site for directions and parking.

Q: Is this event accessible for people with disabilities?

A: Yes. Please visit the Academy of Natural Sciences’ Web site for information about accessibility. Please note that the event will take place in the first floor hallway, dinosaur hall, and the auditorium.

Q: Can I follow the event online and what are the options for doing so?

A: There are two options for following the event online during the panel and discussion starting at 7:00 pm. If you register to participate online, you will receive instructions before November 18 on how to access the event via your preferred tool. Here is a little information about each platform:

Second Life is a free 3D virtual world where users can socialize, connect and create using voice and text chat. The event will broadcast at a designated site in Second Life where you can share the experience and interact with other registered participants. We will try to take questions from Second Life in the Q&A session at the Academy. Learn more about Second Life at their Web site.
Video streaming is an option for people who do not want to enter a virtual world to view the event. This option will not be interactive with the other audience members but participants will be able to submit questions. Registered participants will receive a link to a page where he or she can view the broadcast in a Web browser and an email address to submit questions to.

Q: Is there a way to view this information after the event?

A: We plan to produce a video of selected clips from the evening that will be available online. Please check back to the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation Web site after the event.

Q: How is this event funded?

A: The event is made possible by a grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and has been produced in conjunction with the National Writing Project.
