The Woodrow Wilson Academy of Teaching and LearningThe Woodrow Wilson Academy of Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), is reinventing American teacher preparation. WW Academy teacher candidates must demonstrate a specific set of competencies—the skills, knowledge, and dispositions to lead their own classrooms. To show that they have mastered these competencies Academy candidates work through a series of “challenges” which replace traditional courses and are based on real problems teachers face in the classroom. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the WW Academy is initially offering competency-based master’s in education programs in middle- and secondary-school biology, chemistry, and mathematics teacher education.
