Julie Chung

Pickering Fellow Julie Chung, currently the Deputy Chief of Mission in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, was part of the inaugural class of the Thomas R. Pickering Fellowship Program in 1992 and is one of the first three Pickering Fellows promoted to the rank of Senior Foreign Service.  She has served as an International Relations Officer and Officer General in Bogota, Columbia; an Economic and Public Diplomacy Officer in Hanoi, Vietnam; and an International Relations Officer in East Asia and Pacific Affairs.  Julie has also received numerous State Department honors and has been involved in projects such as the U.S. Cambodian cultural heritage preservation project.  The project included the U.S. Embassy working with the Cambodian government and The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to return looted/stolen ancient Khmer statues from American museums to Cambodia.  She completed her undergraduate work at the University of California, San Diego and her master’s degree at Columbia University.
