WWNFF

A few 2021 Fellowships still available. Apply now!

Applications will only be accepted online and through the WW National Fellowship Foundation. To be considered as a Fellow, your Teaching Fellowship application serves as your application to the partner university. You do not need to apply separately. Once accepted, you may be required to complete university-specific paperwork.

There is no application fee to apply to the WW Teaching Fellowship program. For technical issues with the online application system, email Tech Support.

Getting Started

Check your eligibility.

The Fellowship is open to college seniors, graduates, and career changers who:

  • • have majored in and/or have 30 or more college-level credits in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or math);
  • • demonstrate a commitment to the program and its goals;
  • • have U.S. citizenship or permanent residency;
  • • have attained, or expect to attain by Spring 2021, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or its international equivalent (Note: Undergraduate degrees earned outside the U.S. are accepted once an approved credential evaluator declares the degree equivalent to an earned U.S. bachelor’s degree.);
  • • a cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale is preferred (Note: Candidates who can demonstrate excellence through other avenues will also be considered. All applications are considered in their entirety and selection is based on merit.)

Questions about your eligibility? Email Anna Gallos, Program Associate for Fellow Selection ([email protected]).

Select your institution(s).

Please refer to the detailed information on our university partners to select the institution(s) to which you will apply.

Review financial aid opportunities.

Each of the participating institutions provides financial aid opportunities for graduate students. Should you be interested in applying for need-based financial aid from the federal government, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which can be found at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

The Federal government offers loan forgiveness of up to $17,500 in Federal loans for math and science teachers who 1) meet the highly-qualified teacher status, 2) teach for five consecutive years, and 3) teach for these five years in a low-income school. As a Teaching Fellow, you should easily meet the criteria of being a highly-qualified teacher in a low-income school. For more information, please visit the Federal Loan Forgiveness Website. You may also qualify for a Teach Grant.

Submit supplemental items

To complete your online application, you must submit your resumé, letters of recommendation, and transcripts from all institutions that have awarded you credit.

Eligible applicants who are invited to attend Selection Day (semifinalists) will be required to submit official transcripts by the date they attend Selection.

Resumé

The resumé provides you with the opportunity to showcase your excellence. There is no need to limit your resumé to one page for your WW Fellowship application. In addition to your academic achievements, feel free to highlight your non-academic accomplishments. Please include:

  • • All colleges/universities attended, along with enrollment dates
  • • Information and employment dates for all professional experience
  • • Awards or fellowships
  • • Sports or other extracurricular activities
  • •  Any volunteer experience, particularly with adolescents or in an underserved community

The resumé should be a .PDF and the title of the file should include your first and last name but not include spaces (i.e. SmithJohnResume.pdf).

Recommendations

Please request letters of recommendation from two (2) recommenders. Recommenders should be advised they will receive an email notification directly from the WW Foundation’s application system. We strongly suggest that you provide your recommenders a “submit by” deadline so there is no delay in the review of your application.

Letters of recommendation must come from individuals who are not members of your family. In general, recommenders should comment on your character, your commitment to education and service, and your capacity to work in high-need urban and/or rural contexts.

  • • If you are still enrolled in a degree program or are a very recent graduate, we strongly recommend requesting at least one of the two recommendation letters from a faculty member in your major content area who can comment on your academic ability.
  • • If you have been employed over the past several years and are not able to request a faculty recommendation, we strongly recommend requesting at least one of the two recommendations be requested from a professional colleague who can comment on your skills/knowledge in your specialty field.

Instructions

In the Recommendations section, enter your recommender’s name and email address, in the appropriate box then click “Send Invitation.”

Once you have sent your requests, your recommenders will receive an email inviting them to submit their recommendation. If you or your recommender encounter any difficulties or you need to replace a recommender after a request has already been sent, please contact Tech Support.

You can track receipt of your letters of recommendation in the “Recommenders” section of your application. It is your responsibility to follow up with your recommenders to ensure that they have submitted their online recommendation.

Transcripts

Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended—including any institution that awarded credit for coursework—are required. Upload transcripts to your application in the “Supplemental Items” section. If submitting transcripts from multiple institutions, please combine all transcripts into one PDF document to upload.

Official Transcripts (Semifinalists only)

Eligible applicants who are invited to attend Selection Day (semifinalists) must submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended—including any institution that awarded credit for coursework. Transcripts must be issued and sent directly to the WW Foundation to be considered official.

The Foundation strongly prefers that semifinalists submit e-transcripts. If your institution does not offer e-transcripts or you are facing other hardships in submitting transcripts electronically, please contact Anna Gallos, Program Associate for Selection.

Please have your institution send e-transcripts to: [email protected]

Required Tests

WW Teaching Fellowship candidates are required to take and pass the appropriate program admission and teaching licensure examinations for the state in which they would like to teach. In Pennsylvania, there are no required program admission tests. However, to receive licensure and become a teacher of record, Fellows must pass the required state licensure exams (Praxis). Fellows should expect to have taken and passed the appropriate Praxis exam by the time their program begins in summer 2021.

Attend a Selection Day (Semifinalists only)

Selection Day is the next step in the application process where eligible candidates (semifinalists) are invited to participate in group and individual interview activities. Selection Days are held in conjunction with application deadlines and typically scheduled one to two weeks following a deadline. Selection Days will be held remotely for the 2020-2021 selection cycle.

Eligible candidates who have completed their application will be reviewed on a rolling basis prior to each deadline and will receive an invitation to participate in Selection Day. Applicants cannot move forward in the selection process without participating in Selection and only eligible candidates will be invited to participate.

Detailed information about how to prepare and the logistics of the selection day process will be provided to applicants at the semifinalist stage.

Await a Decision

The WW Foundation expects to award up to 56 Fellowships this year; however the bulk of Fellowships will be awarded at West Chester University. The Foundation will share status updates, including final admission decisions, by email.
