“This is a gift—that we intrinsically have this sense of reverence for the U.S. Constitution,” writes Charles Krauthammer WF ‘70 H in a new posthumous book.

For decades, Dr.  Krauthammer offered thoughtful political commentary in his weekly, syndicated column for The Washington Post and through his nightly appearances on “Special Report with Bret Baier.” In 1987, he won the Pulitzer Prize for “his witty and insightful columns on national issues.”

His most recent book, created and compiled before his death, is a collection of columns, speeches, and never-before-published writings, edited by his son Daniel Krauthammer. The Point of It All: A Lifetime of Great Loves and Endeavors covers a range of topics—family and friends, politics and philosophy—and is prefaced with his son’s moving eulogy. The collection leaves a legacy of the writer’s thoughts, offering his views on the “enduring miracle” of the U.S. Constitution and his reflections as a new father, among many others.

“Charles wrote for the right reasons,” said The Washington Post. “To provoke us to think, to enlarge our understanding, at times to make us laugh. Like few others, he succeeded, week after week, Friday after Friday, year after year… he wrote a column of breathtaking range and intelligence and integrity.”

His previous book, Things That Matter: Three Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics, was a #1 New York Times bestseller, selling more than one million copies.

After attending Harvard Medical School, Dr. Krauthammer co-discovered a form of bipolar disease while chief resident in psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He left the medical practice in 1978 to help direct planning in psychiatric research for the Carter administration. He served as a speechwriter to Vice President Walter Mondale in 1980. He began his journalistic career at The New Republic in 1981 and joined The Washington Post in 1984. Dr. Krauthammer announced his terminal illness in his final column on June 8 of this year and died on June 21.
